jr duty free cairns

The Tax & Duty Free Shop in Cairns Australia followed a series of travel retail shops which were brought to live in New Zealand. From that moment onwards we were entitled to continue our creative design, technical development and project management works on the Australian continent. In Cairns near the famous Great Barrier Reef we were able to realise the first project on Australian territories, naturally with respect to the new corporate design guidelines, which was initially executed in Auckland (NZ). We are looking back to a long term and positive cooperation with James Richardson Duty Free having even experienced project developments right down to Tahiti.

Round, oval and organic shapes

The round, oval and organic shapes of ceiling and flooring structures are based on the idea of the octopus tentacles, which can quite often be seen in the Great Barrier Reef. The goal was, to bribe consumers into the various product areas with tentaclelike structures on floor and ceiling.

Highly commercial spaces have been created with the combination of illuminated bulkheads and product orientated floor decorations. These are extremely valuable for temporarily installed promotions. The launches of new products by various brands get the required attention from the consumers.

Materials and colours have been defined to match the relevant product categories. Whilst darker wood material had been utilised for the display of alcohol and tobacco products, light wood material was the basis for the perfume- & cosmetic display area.

Since the shop in Cairns reopened by James Richardson Duty Free the travel retail shop started to deliver double the turnover compared to the former tenant – also as a result of the shop design created by Detail Design.
